the new terminal 2 at heathrow will open on 4th june 2014. it is the latest development in the transformation of heathrow and in the hub of the departure lounge will be the new fullers pub which is to be the flag ship site for the fullers brand. the brief for the site was that the pub should be both innovative and creative in design but also reflect the historic nature of the fullers brewery ‘london pride’ brand. omega, having supplied signage to fullers for over 10 years, were tasked with providing creative input and also to develop new techniques to ensure that the signage design and manufacture resulted in a spectacular venue.

this complex project required several design iterations and really stretched the omega team to develop different signage techniques to establish the right look. a great example of this was the desire to recreate the distinctive colour and brickwork of the first brewery wall and gate for the shop front of the site. omega looked at several different ways to create this and eventually introduced the new technique of applying mortar onto the brickwork out of stainless steel so that, when finished, it created a stunning and contemporary look but with a traditional ambiance. with the addition of lighting, vinyl stencils and details such as stainless steel beer barrels the venue has a really unique look with a strong branded feel. the project is a great example of omega blending its design and creative skills with its ability to translate these into workable and well executed installs. the whole project took over a year of which 3 months were for the install itself due to the need to organise the logistics of getting new products and tools onto this highly secure site. working with, and meeting the needs of, designers, architects and other contractors was a real challenge but omega applied their creative expertise, strong project management skills and consistent attention to detail. the result is a venue that is both stunning to look at and a real credit to the fullers brand.
