case studyfuller’s

the new terminal 2 at heathrow will open on 4th june 2014. it is the latest development in the transformation of heathrow and in the hub of the departure lounge will be the new fullers pub which is to be the flag ship site for the fullers brand. the brief for the site was that the pub should be both innovative and creative in design but also reflect the historic nature of the fullers brewery ‘london pride’ brand. omega, having supplied signage to fullers for over 10 years, were tasked with providing creative input and also to develop new techniques to ensure that the signage design and manufacture resulted in a spectacular venue.

this complex project required several design iterations and really stretched the omega team to develop different signage techniques to establish the right look. a great example of this was the desire to recreate the distinctive colour and brickwork of the first brewery wall and gate for the shop front of the site. omega looked at several different ways to create this and eventually introduced the new technique of applying mortar onto the brickwork out of stainless steel so that, when finished, it created a stunning and contemporary look but with a traditional ambiance. with the addition of lighting, vinyl stencils and details such as stainless steel beer barrels the venue has a really unique look with a strong branded feel. the project is a great example of omega blending its design and creative skills with its ability to translate these into workable and well executed installs. the whole project took over a year of which 3 months were for the install itself due to the need to organise the logistics of getting new products and tools onto this highly secure site. working with, and meeting the needs of, designers, architects and other contractors was a real challenge but omega applied their creative expertise, strong project management skills and consistent attention to detail. the result is a venue that is both stunning to look at and a real credit to the fullers brand.

      Case StudyMitchells & Butler

      toby carvery reaches new heights.

toby carvery is a well-loved mitchells & butler brand which has been serving customers for over 30 years delivering 21 million meals each year. in 2013 it was decided toby carvery wanted to up its branding and design to reflect its ‘family time’ positioning which resulted in the need to update and refresh all the toby signage in line with the redesign.

omega signs were tasked with showing how the new design would work across the signage needs of all the restaurants and this included the design of the new toby man on a full sized totem. the brief was quite challenging and, in order to ensure they met it totally, omega produced a full size prototype. property, marketing and brand personnel from the m&b team were then invited to view the totem at the omega factory and it was agreed that with a few tweaks it successfully met the brief of being eye-catching and in line with the brand redesign. once approved, omega then created a family of signs to show how the new signage design would work across the portfolio. omega will now continue to roll out the new brand image as each site is remodelled.

        Case StudyOne Over The Ait

with a relationship that spans over 20 years omega were delighted to be involved in Fullers refurbishment of the one over the ait development.

established in 1992 omega signs has built an enviable reputation for providing quality corporate signage solutions and is today one of the uk’s leading signage companies. its sister company inn-fresco supply and install a range of design led outdoor solution products to create innovative and bespoke exterior areas.

combining these two complimentary skills omega and inn-fresco were able to offer a fully integrated approach to the external appearance of one over the ait.

fuller’s is a well-known brand acknowledged for producing some of the best beers in the world. maintaining these high levels of quality and service is a real source of pride and this is reflected in the strong branding and iconic golden griffin. over the years omega signs have been tasked with ensuring that these high standards are maintained with all their signage and the one over the ait development was no exception. the brief was a complicated one as the building is quite contemporary but it was important to develop an external scheme that reflected the quality and tradition of the fullers brand. omega therefore utilised traditional techniques such as 23 ½ ct gold leaf and specialist sign writing.

combined with modern, contemporary branded awnings these elements delivered the perfect external scheme.

peter turner from fullers said “we have worked with omega for the last 12 years and they continue to impress. they understand our branding and that sign design needs to reflect our values of quality, service and pride. they were the perfect partner for this project as they were able to provide both our signage and outdoor solution needs and their understanding of our brand values ensured that we received the high quality look that we expect on every project.”

managing director duncan chapman went on to add ‘’we have a strong team who have the knowledge and skills to handle all aspects of a project be that signage or for an outdoor solution. innovation, design, manufacture and installation are a given but we go one step further by always looking to see how we can add value to every project. this ensures that our customers receive a solution that is totally unique to them. this level of attention to detail, innovation and added value are why our customers remain loyal year after year.’’

inn-fresco, omega’s sister company, were also appointed to provide an attractive and stylish outdoor area to exploit the pub’s spectacular views of the river thames and ensure customers utilised fully the external space. following several site meetings and 3d visuals, it was agreed that the best solution was to install the 5010 cassetted awning, which is elegant in design and fitted with the contemporary look and feel of the building. despite its slender shape, the 5010 product is one of the sturdiest and most robust awnings on the market boasting all the latest features from integrated guttering, to radio-controlled motor operation and folding arms, fully protected by the cassette. a total of 6 awnings were fitted with the one over the ait logo displayed on the valance of two of the awnings.

the key issue was fixing the awnings to the reinforced concrete beams.

dan mallin, senior project manager said: “fixing the 6 awnings to the building was a real challenge. the reinforced concrete beams didn’t make this an easy task. but as ever the perseverance of the inn-fresco installation team was the winning trait and the end result is spectacular!”

            Case StudyFuller’s

fuller’s is a well-known brand acknowledged for producing some of the best beers in the world with their ales having won an array of glittering awards.

maintaining these high levels of quality and service is a real source of pride and this is reflected in the strong branding and iconic golden griffin. fullers take their signage brand very seriously and are recognised as being industry leaders, with a signage family that portrays perfectly the quality and high standards that are synonymous with their beers.

however, fullers were looking to evolve the concept for pubs which were aimed at the younger professional market. they needed a signage solution that was more contemporary but still up held the fullers brand values. working alongside designer tim may, omega helped develop a new signage family that still incorporated the iconic griffin logo but, by clever use of new fonts and the addition of new colours, they achieved the desired look whilst still being recognisable as part of the Fullers family.

the process was very much collaborative and involved lots of input and sampling for approval by the fuller’s executive team but after several revisions a perfect solution was achieved. the new branding looks stylish and aspirational and yet maintains the status and feel of the fullers brand sitting comfortably alongside their traditional red, green and gold identity.

“we have worked with omega for the last 12 years and they continue to impress. they understand our branding and that sign design needs to reflect our values of quality, service and pride. they have excelled further on this occasion by managing to provide a solution which meets the challenging brief exactly.” jimmy whelan, marketing manager

traditional signage gilding techniques have recently been used completing the signage for fullers at the hogarth in london.

the pub is named after the great 17th century painter william hogarth, and to reflect this, our very own in-house designer kayleigh hand drew a portrait of him which the famous painter himself would have been proud of. this was then beautifully depicted onto a sign using traditional gilding techniques to give the high quality look and feel that fullers are after.
