Award winning property developer Urban Splash has won the reputation as one of the country’s leading regeneration companies.
It delivers true mixed use schemes including residential property of all tenures, commercial office, retail and leisure space. A great example of their work is the Saxton development located just five minutes’ walk from Call Lane near the centre of Leeds. Saxton is the conversion of two former social housing blocks built 50 years ago and along with architects Union North, Urban Splash have given the building a complete makeover creating fantastic studio, one and two bedroom apartments. Residents now have all the benefits of the city centre on their doorstep as well as a large private resident’s garden, allotments and an onsite gym. However with 410 apartments split across two buildings and with 11 entrances to the building clear signposting for the apartments and facilities was an absolute must. Omega worked alongside the architects to help with the way finding in the development and bring the architects designs of large illuminated lettering at each entrance core to life. It was agreed that the signage needed to be bold, clear and hardwearing. The result was 11 large bright red letters,A through to K,based on large steel posts so that the signs could be seen from a long distance and at the entrance there is a large illuminated Saxton sign which can be clearly seen on the approach. Simon Gawthorpe, Managing Director of Urban Splash, said “We are really proud of this development. We have transformed what was an unloved, unused building into a well designed and really great place to live. The signage is one of the first things that people see when entering the scheme so ensuring that we got it right, with Omega, was critical. The result is great and a real testament to the quality of design and workmanship throughout the scheme. The signage is bold and really stands out but is also functional and in keeping with the new design of the buildings.”
